About Our Pastor And Family

Rev. Dr. Kevin Tarvid has been our Pastor since the summer of 1999. He is a lifelong Cheesehead, growing up in Central Wisconsin, just north of the Dells.

Kevin graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, with a Bachelor’s Degree in History, Social Sciences and Secondary Education. He holds a Master’s Degree in Management from Cardinal Stritch University. He received his Master’s Degree in Divinity from the Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, and a decade later returned to complete a Doctorate in Ministry.

Kevin’s doctoral work surrounded the study of Pastoral Care and Counseling and understanding congregations as systems. His research involved “Visions for Vocation, Pastors Helping People Find Their Vocation.”

Theologically, Kevin is what they call “Neo-orthodox”, and thoroughly Presbyterian. He is big on grace, forgiveness and gratitude. He places great emphasis on the example of Jesus. Kevin values tradition, and also innovation. He believes that sermons should be relatively short, but filled with meaning, practicality and humor. Kevin advocates for joyful worship that blends a wide variety of music and experience – times of quiet and times of laughter.

Pastoral care is a passion for Kevin. He carries a cellphone, and is in contact nearly 24/7/365. He also believes very strongly in the concept of the “Priesthood of All Believers” and so encourages all of his people to discover their own ministries, and to work together to make the world a better place!

Sally Tarvid is Kevin’s spouse of over 30 years. In the church, she is an active Elder and Deacon. In the work world, Sally is a Clinical Social Worker, working especially with children and families. Sally also specializes in grief counseling.

Their daughter, Kristina, is a Registered Nurse at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee. She is an active member of the congregation, as a deacon and a Sunday School Teacher.

The Tarvids love Greenfield Avenue Church and its people very much!
