Church Family Picture

For over 80 years now, the people of Greenfield Avenue Presbyterian Church have been faithfully loving and serving people in our own neighborhood, the greater Milwaukee area, and around the world. We are known as a very warm and welcoming faith family.

We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, a denomination with a wonderfully rich and storied heritage. We believe that we are a small part of the one Great Christian Church, and work very closely with many other denominations. We also value other faith expressions very highly, and often find ways to bridge gaps between us and work together toward a better world. We are very active in mission, locally and around the world. The number of opportunities for service we provide is amazing!

The motto of the Presbyterian Church is: “The Church Reformed, always reforming”. We seek to be faithful to our tradition, and yet we are very open to being changed by the Holy Spirit. For example, we proudly celebrate the fact that for over 75 years now, we have ordained women as Elders, and for over 50 years, we have ordained women to the Ministry.

Our tradition believes that God is very much involved in the world, especially through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We believe that while we human beings are far from perfect - that because of our FAITH, God loves and forgives us. We show our thankfulness by living good lives of love and service and celebration. At least we try. We have been known to say:

“You ain’t gotta be perfekt!”

Our worship is a faithful combination of reverence and celebration. Some moments are very, very quiet, others – not so much. We sing and clap and laugh out loud. When we “Pass the Peace”, there is a lot of movement and sound, and often times public displays of affection are seen. Children are always welcome in our worship. For that matter, EVERYONE is welcome to join us.

So, if you haven’t already, come visit us. Chances are you need a church, and chances are we need you!
