ROOT BEER  FLOAT  DAY -  We’re celebrating JUNE with ROOT BEER FLOATS on Sun., June 12, right after worship - what a delightful refreshment!  Invite your friends to join us for worship that day, so they can enjoy this “taste of summer” with us!

STRAWBERRY   FEST  IS  COMING  ON SUNDAY, JUNE 26!  It’s from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM !  Lori Johnson is coordinator, & we need folks to CLEAN berries at 9:00 AM on June 25; to help us set up at 8:15 AM on the 26th; to bake tasty treats for us to sell; to work at the bake sale; to take orders; to scoop ice cream & berries; to cook hot dogs & pizza; to sell tickets – there’s so VERY much to do -- & WE NEED YOUR HELP !!  Please tell Lori she can count on you -- & what you’ll do at this combination community outreach & fund-raising event.

APPLEBEE’S  FUNDRAISER on Wed. June 8  -  Eat lunch, a mid-afternoon snack, or dinner at Applebee’s, on Highway 100 between National & Oklahoma any time between 11:00 AM & 1:00 AM – it’s a chance to be together, celebrate, & raise funds for the church.  We will supply you with a voucher, either paper, which you can pick up at a worship service, (or through an email, which you’ll need to print).  When you arrive at Applebee’s on that day, simply hand them the voucher, tell them you’re taking part in the GAPC fundraiser, & order your meal!  This is an excellent opportunity to invite your friends to dine WITH YOU, at Applebee’s, but remember – in order for your meal to benefit the church, you MUST present the voucher.  This special event is a part of our 90th Anniversary Celebration, & we’d like to get a bunch of us to go for LUN CH – or for a snack, … or DINNER – so please do let us know you’d like to be part of the group.   Invite everyone you know to get one of our vouchers, & help by eating there on June 8 – for the church receives a percentage of the price of EACH  MEAL we or our guests, order!  EACH PERSON MUST PRESENT A  VOUCHER FOR US TO RECEIVE THEIR PERCENTAGE

FROM  OUR  PASTOR:    Happy June, Beloved:

Let me begin by thanking absolutely everyone who made our Opening 90th Anniversary Celebration so special.  It was wonderful!  So many beautiful memories, so many great stories, and such a wonderful reunion of souls who have played such an important part in our history and tradition!

If you weren’t able to be with us, I’m so sorry.  But here is some good news – this was just the beginning!

We are planning a myriad of continuing celebrations, and we’ll have many opportunities to rejoice together as the year goes by…  Please stay tuned for further news and invitations!!!!

In the meantime, it is more important than ever that we set the foundation for the next 90 years, and beyond.  The challenges ahead of us are daunting, and we must band together, roll up our holy sleeves, and push the pendulum in the other direction.

You know that society is seeking to leave the church behind.  We are inundated with distractions, time fillers, and unhelpful priorities…

So…  I’m asking each of us to make some serious time, talent, treasure, energy, imagination and love for the church, and make sure that, 90 years from now, our spiritual great-great grandchildren have this faith family to lean on, learn from, and be strengthened by…

I know that life is full.  Can we help you in some way?  Because, the truth is,  we need you -- I need you.  Can you help us?  Please let me know… God loves you.  Me too!

                                                       -   Pastor  Kevin

BOBBIE   NEEDS   JELLY  JARS !!  Bobbie Griffith  makes the most WONDERFUL                                  JELLY for us to sell at STRAWBERRY FEST !!   She’d greatly appreciate it if you’d supply her with some small canning-size JELLY JARS in which to package this tasty treat!  Please bring them to worship for Bobbie AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, for she’ll start the jelly-making process VERY SOON!  Thanks!

COOKIES  for  HABITAT –  As in past years, we’ve been asked to supply Habitat for Humanity with a significant quantity of COOKIES for the week ofJune 12.  PLEASE BAKE, & bring the cookies with you to worship June 12 (& put them in the library).  We’ll PACKAGE the cookies after worship -- & we’d welcome your help with that endeavor, also.  THANKS, BAKERS!

MUSIC MINSTER SHERI is taking many of her vacation Sundays this summer.  But fear not !  On the dates she’s away, our good friends Cynthia Winke & Kate Sponholz will provide worship music for us.  We always miss Sheri when she’s not here … but we’re also very happy to welcome Cynthia & Kate!

Roger Frankowski, a volunteer at Good Samaritan Outreach Center, who spoke with us about that organization on May 1.  Our folks had lots of questions, & Roger provided much excellent information.  Let’s continue to  give as many non-perishable food items to this wonderful group as we possibly can!

                and …

Dolly Edward & Sue Pope, who provided lovely pink carnations to give to the ladies, on Mother’s Day.

                and …

Sheri Masiakowski, our VERY  creative Minister of Music, who requested that a reading be added to the prelude on Mother’s Day.  And to Sally Tarvid & Sue Smith, who prepared & presented it during worship.

                and …

ALL the good folks who took part in our May 15 -  90th Anniversary Celebration.  As Pastor Kevin noted in his letter this month, it was an AWESOME event!

                and …

JT Gall, who works so hard keeping the Peace Garden looking exceptionally beautiful.

               and …

Gail & Dick Kloes, much-appreciated office volunteers!

SPRING  GRADS?  Have we MISSED anyone in the church family who’s just graduated … or is a soon-to-be GRADUATE?  We don’t want to leave out any of our young (or not-so young) folks, for we want to be sure to extend our congratulations!  Please let us know.

RELAY for LIFE July 22 at Nathan Hale H.S.  - We’re having a team again this year; Libbie Jansen’s our “Captain”.  Libbie will be attending the Captains’ meeting in several weeks … we’ll keep you posted as she receives more information.  There’s no time like the present to sign up (& begin getting SPONSORS!)  You can sign up on line (www.relayfor lifewestallis/newberlin) or with Libbie, who’ll have sign-up sheets.

GAPC  DOES  MAKE A  DIFFERENCE !  In Sunday School our speaker from Good Samaritan Outreach Center told us they provide the basics, like food, clothing, a bar of soap or a toothbrush, along with many other things people need.  We support Good Samaritan with a “challenge item” each month.  For JUNE – it’s PEANUT BUTTER.

Please remember the St. Ben’s  Meal Program, in which we participate through

the Chili Mac project.  They’ve lost one of the churches which has been providing food for them for the second Monday of the month.  At this point, we’re picking up the slack for them, by making TWICE AS MUCH Chili Mac when we cook on the Sunday BEFORE the second Monday … can YOU help out?  WE REALLY  WOULD WELCOME  YOUR  HELP WITH  THIS  EFFORT!!!    (Speak to Barb Brunett, or Kristina Tarvid, if YOU can help!) Additionally, if you’d be willing to provide SUPPLIES for making Chili Mac, there’s a list on the Peace & Justice Committee bulletin board in the narthex … anything you can contribute (including a check to pay for supplies) would be most welcome!  St. Ben’s typically feeds between 250 & 300 people, on the 2nd Monday of each month.  There’s great need for our help.

We support WILSON SCHOOL, a WAWM elementary school we’ve helped for the past

three years.  We know school is practically out for the summer, but the need will be very great, come fall.  There’s a box in the narthex for this purpose, with a list of needed items taped to the box.  Let’s get a head start on autumn semester NOW!
