FROM   PASTOR  KEVIN:    Happy August, Beloved!

I have a proposition for you!  I’d like for us to take this last month of the summer season to think about our Sunday School in the fall!

I have an idea based upon the theories of the Rev. Dr. Anna Carter Florence, the presenter Sally and I met at the Washington Island Forum in June.

Dr. Florence proposes that, We the Church, can approach scripture the way a dramatic theater group might embrace a play, with special attention on the action of the moment, even more so than the content.

So – what if we were to use our Christian Education time and effort into researching, assembling, rehearsing and performing the bestest, mostest spectacular of a Christmas Program ever?!?!?!

I’d love to see we GAPC’ers of every generation work together to create a masterpiece that will go down in the history of Christmas programs.  Let’s see how the Holy Spirit leads us: the finished product can be as plain, (or fancy!) and simple as we like.

Then, if we decide that this was fun and fulfilling, we could dedicate the after- Christmas time to building the bestest/mostest Easter/Pentecost program ever!

Please give some prayer and thought to how you might like to take part in a program such as this.  Taking a leadership role could be most rewarding, and even just witnessing such a process could be soul stirring!

Then, please let me know what you think.  We’ll talk it over the next month or so, and then maybe get semi-serious the week after Rally Day, September 9th!   Godloves You.  Me Too!                                                                                     ~    Pastor  Kevin

COMING UP SOON … RALLY  DAY  on  SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9  - SUNDAY  SCHOOL for  ALL   AGES  !!!

Image result for free clipart choirsCHANCEL CHOIR practice resumes for fall season on Thurs. Aug 23, with a POT LUCK at the home of Music Minister Sheri, at 6:00 PM.  Choir practice of 1 hour follows the meal.  Sheri invites ANYONE who like to sing to become a member of the choir!  You’ll be welcomed with open arms, & we’d love to have some new folks join us as we “Make a JOYFUL NOISE UNTO THE LORD”!  It’s educational, for Sheri gives us fascinating new information at every practice; it’s LOADS of fun;  & it encourages us to use our “creative side” as we make music, because yes, singing is an ART FORM involving great creativity!  Be with us!  Give choir a try!

Image result for free clipart relayPeter J informs us that, as of July 22, Relay for Life’s GAPC  team raised $740.00 for the American Cancer Society!  Peter noted that not all pledges have been turned in,  & he expects that we’ll have raised at least $1,000.00 by the time all pledges reach him.  At this writing, the Relay has raised a total of $51,456.00 from West Allis/New Berlin’s Relay.  The support our congregation provides for this fund-raiser is amazing!  Walkers, those who donated, music-makers  -- all who took part in any way – THANK  YOU !!

Image result for free clipart woman playing piano       HUGE  THANKS  TO: Guest musicians Cynthia & Kate, who continue to provide us with such beautiful piano music while our Minister of Music plays other venues this summer.  Kate shared her lovely voice with us as she sang & played in the “SPECIAL MUSIC” spot on Aug. 22, for which we’re especially thankful. We are truly blessed to have them share their talent with us.

MAYNARD, SR.  shared many memories with us, while he was here for the “party” which celebrated the life of his late wife, Joyce.  He is especially pleased that they were able to attend the 2010 Japan-Taiwan Tour of the Senior Softball-USA.  He showed pictures & a letter from the Chief Executive Officer of Senior Softball-USA, which stated, in part: “You continue to be a very sharp pitcher, Maynard, and you are a great bat-girl, Joyce.  You are both an inspiration to our players and the Japanese & Taiwan teams!”   Such precious memories!  We’re so glad to be reminded!  Thanks, Maynard!

HELP  RAISE  MONEY  FOR  GAPC through Mr. Dye’s Pies Sunday Specials:  Purchase a whole pie with them at 8103 W. Tower Ave, Milwaukee (near 76th & Bradley Rd.) & give them our church bulletin.  Then, Mr. Dye’s Pies will send the church a check for $3.00 in honor of the giver!  What a great idea!!!

PLEASE  REMEMBER TO PAY YOUR  PER  CAPITA OF  $34.00 PER  ACTIVE CHURCH MEMBER.  If our members don’t pay it, the church must take that amount from the budget, & we don’t have money allotted for that.  Per Capita is “the tie that binds” – annual giving that unites the entire church in the ongoing and essential work that guides the Office of the General Assembly, the life of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and benefits every congregation and every mid council ministry.  Empowered by the Holy spirit, the Office of the General Assembly will encourage the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to be a people of hope –

v  Seeking together the mind of Christ:

v  Working for justice and mercy in the world; and

v  Participating in God’s continual reformation of the church.
